A brief history of Meeteetse, Wyoming

The Hungry Horse Farm is located 5 miles north of Meeteetse, Wyoming, a historic western town located 32 miles south of Cody on Highway 120. Founded in the 1890's, the word Meeteetse is a Shoshone Indian word for "meeting place." The town continues to retain its western flavor with wooden boardwalks, watering troughs, hitching rails and several old buildings from the turn of the century.

Meeteetse, Wyoming is one of the oldest communities in the Big Horn Basin. The town was settled in the 1880s and by 1906 had seven saloons, one store, two banks, and two hotels. Until fairly recently, the town had a reputation for being "wild and woolly". For the first time in Meeteetse's history, churches now outnumber saloons. Hungry Horse Ranch, Cody, Wyoming
